Chariities give West Wittering cricketers a boost

West Wittering CC used funding from the Lord’s Taverners to purchase new training equipment, including a roll-on net, which will go a long way to ensuring future stars of the club get every chance to fulfil their potential. The Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, will donate more than £3m this year to help give young people a sporting chance. Neil Holloway, chairman of the West Sussex Lord’s Taverners, said: “The Lord’s Taverners believes that sport and recreation are essential for all young people. We are delighted to support West Wittering CC in helping them develop the skills of their youngsters.” The grant from the Woodger Trust enabled the club to purchase a new square and strip mower. The piece of equipment will be an integral part of the club’s development over the coming years, as improving the facility to ensure as many players have the best experience they can, is something the club strive for. Richard Shrubb, of the Woodger Trust, said: “West Wittering CC have become a hub of the community and the work they have done over the past few years has been fantastic. The trust are very happy to support the club and hope the new equipment will go towards achieving their goals of improving the facility and creating a better experience for all.” West Wittering CC chairman Shaun Standing said: “It’s with the continued support of our supporters and sponsors that we are able to drive the club forward and achieve what we have in recent years.” West Wittering are looking forward to the 2015 season, with two league sides striving for promotion once again and the exciting addition of their Sunday academy side. The junior section continues to grow each year, with up to 80 youngsters training on Friday evenings at the Millennium Meadow. The club need umpires for the 2015 season and beyond. Salthill Cricket Club are a friendly family-orientated side who play Hampshire League south east division two matches on Saturdays and friendlies on Sundays. They play at the Fishbourne Centre, where they have their own facilities and the use of the centre. They play at some lovely picturesque locations. Salthill are always looking to move forward as a club and have made excellent progress in developing their eight-strip square and facilities. They are seeking new members who would like to join the club and would like to play on Saturdays, Sundays or both.
