A 52-year-old photograph was the key to a reunion between two identical twin sisters from Pagham and identical twin brothers.
Pauline Hilton and Virginia Norman met up with Robin and John Barfoot for the first time since the Fifties.

John brought along the photo of Pauline and Virginia Rose, as they were then, when he visited Robin in Apple Grove, on the Aldwick Bay estate, from his home in Toronto in Canada.

They asked a few questions and were soon pointed in the direction of Pauline and Virginia.

Pauline, of Lion Road, Pagham, said: "People remembered us and put them in touch with Virginia who lives on the Craigweil estate.

"It was so nice to see Robin and John again after 50 years. It was a lovely surprise for us.

"It's good to talk to other identical twins about what it's like having a brother or a sister the same as yourself."

Pauline and Virginia were born on August 18, 1942. They grew up in Nyetimber and were well-known for being impossible to tell apart.

Like many local residents of that era, they often went to Church Farm Holiday Village for entertainment.

It was there that they met Robin and John at the age of 14 and posed for a photo with two other local girls.

"We lost touch with Robin and John," said Pauline. "But Robin took the photo with him when he moved to Canada."
