A YOUNG motorcyclist from Southwater died after coming off his bike and being hit by a following car, an inquest heard.
Jason Goodaire, 21, was travelling back to his family home along the A24 north of the Findon roundabout after seeing his girlfriend in Littlehampton.
The inquest in Worthing on Monday heard evidence from Richard Goring and his wife Kirsty who had dinner at Mr Goring's parents' house in Findon on Sunday December 9 last year.
They left at about 10pm to make their way home in their Peugeot 306. Mr Goring said he was driving especially carefully because of the wet roads, the darkness and particularly because his wife was pregnant.
Mr Goodaire had previously overtaken them on his Yamaha Thundercat 600.
Then in the distance Mr Goring said he could see a car braking in the slow lane. He pulled out into the fast lane and continued.
As the couple approached the scene, they saw what looked like rubbish on the road, but later turned out to be debris from the motorbike.
They also noticed odd looking slithers of mud on the central reservation.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
