PLANS to create a 100-metre long 'Berlin Wall' of flats in Roffey have been passed, despite huge local opposition.

Horsham District Council says the 17 new flats which will link the three existing apartment blocks of Norfolk Court will provide vital subsidised homes.

Residents began campaigning against the plans in May and a petition amassed more than 70 signatures and 29 letters of representation were written to the council.

On Tuesday, Octoberr 7, at a planning meeting packed with members of the public, councillors endorsed the plans submitted by Saxon Weald housing association.

Residents at the meeting had issues with the state of the existing flats, complaining of dumped rubbish and washing hung out of windows - problems they believed would be worsened by the new apartments.

One resident, Mr A.J. Byrne, said the development would affect hundreds of local people.
