Open day at Littlehampton fire station promises fun for all

Visitors of all ages are invited to Littlehampton fire station's open day next week for a chance to learn more about the fire service's work.

At the event on Saturday, October 1 members of the public will be able to chat with firefighters to find out more about their role, as well as ask any questions about the Fire and Rescue Service.

Rescue drills, chip pan demonstrations and road accident procedures are just some of the informative demonstrations that will take place.

Important safety advice will be given by firefighters as well as other emergency services, including the RNLI and HM Coastguard and Sussex Police, with information too about how these different services interact.

Vintage fire engines and emergency service vehicles will be on display for visitors to take a look at.

There will also be stalls, entertainment, a bouncy castle and refreshments for everyone to enjoy.

Graeme Woods, Watch Manager, said he hopes the day will have something to interest everyone.

He said: “Holding an open day is a great opportunity for people to come and find out more about the role of a modern firefighter, the services we offer, and how we work alongside the other emergency services to help and protect our local communities.

“We hope to mix fun with excitement as well as passing on safety tips, so we’d love to see families and people of all ages at the station enjoying themselves and learning how to keep themselves safe.”

The event will be jointly opened by the Mayor of Littlehampton, Ian Buckland, and Connor Cruise, the teenage son of a local firefighter who had to have his leg amputated this year due to cancer.

Half of any funds raised on the day will be put towards ‘Keep Connor Active’, a fundraising campaign set up to provide support to Connor, a member of the East Preston Under 15’s football team, and help him to return to a fit and active lifestyle.
