THE difficulties suffered by Mrs Maxine Humphrey when she made a passport application for her daughter (Herald, July 24) highlights the widespread confusion in respect of the correct address for Fishersgate and Southwick.
This came about when the Post Office introduced postcodes. Southwick was annexed to Brighton and Fishersgate effectively disappeared.

In recent weeks, I have received two letters from Southern Water. One was addressed to "Southwick, Brighton, East
Sussex", the other to "Southwick, Brighton, West Sussex".

Adur District Council public notices published in the Shoreham Herald show the address for Southwick as "Southwick, Brighton, West Sussex", and the address for William Street trading estate, Fishersgate, is shown in business advertisements as "Portslade, Brighton, East Sussex".

I think Adur District Council should take steps to change the address for Fishersgate and Southwick. The Royal Mail code of practice provides for a change of the postal address if more than half the effected households vote in favour of the change.
