I WOULD to like say a huge thank you for the refurbished Shoreham Centre.
lt looks amazing and (at the time of writing] is almost finished.

l have a market stall there every Wednes-day which I have run for 16 years.

The centre is the heart of Shore-ham.

Those heartless thieves who stole the lead from the roof
back in October had no idea of the misery and loss of revenue for both the centre and all that went on inside it.

I, for one, as a stall holder – and I think I speak for all – have missed the busy, bustling Wednesdays we all knew and loved.

For me, it's not so much the money I missed; it's more of a meeting place for shoppers and stallholders alike.

My dad used to say of the Wednesday market... "this is the old Shoreham High Street", reminding me when, back in the 1960-70s, everyone met up in the town while out shopping. That seems to have disappeared, along with all the little, independent shops.

That's progress, I suppose.

I look forward to getting back the atmosphere that disappeared with the lead.

Thank you, Adur, for restoring the one building that benefits almost everybody in Shoreham, but, most all, thank you to Kelly Hagan, the centre manager, for convincing the authorities that the centre was worth saving.
