I WAS the owner of the sailing boat Zora which went aground on Shoreham Beach (Herald, July 10).
I would like to say thank you to all the people who rallied around to assist and give me moral support.
The Shoreham lifeboat crew were absolutely marvellous.
I had two crew members, Adam and Dave, on board with me.
They had to push the
bow round as the tide came in to get the angle right, so that the lifeboat could tow me off the beach, which it did.
The sea was getting rougher, so the coxswain had to hold the lifeboat steady in shallow water, which was not an easy task.
Adam and Dave stayed with me until we berthed at Sussex Yacht Club.
The professionalism of the lifeboat crew was unsurpassed.
The coastguard also stood by, just in case.
To have the knowledge that they were there, should I have needed them, was comforting.
I am sorry that I caused so much trouble.
I am not young and should have known better.
It is nice to know that the milk of human kindness is still around.
