THE front-page article of the Shoreham Herald on May 1 reminds me that, knowing the history of broken sewers and Harbour Way being flooded with sewage, when the planning process started for the development of 300 new homes on Sussex Wharf at the eastern end of Harbour Way, I asked the question about water supply and drainage – and was assured by Southern Water that there were no problems.
I would have thought that any competent organisation would be able to calculate the requirement and know the size of pipes needed.

Not Southern Water, apparently.

Also, this debacle shows the folly of the government allowing developers to use their own building inspectors.

Surely the council inspectors would have picked up this problem.

Isn't it time for the council to step in and stop any more homes being occupied, exacerbating the sewage problem, until the sewer is replaced and the road resurfaced?
