Pensioners feeling petrol price pinch

I WOULD like to thank the three women who helped during a recent fall in Southwick Square.
Having reached the age when I really shouldn't be here, I do face the future with some apprehension and trepidation.

With fuel prices soaring and energy bills increasing, I now find that my weekly shopping jaunt to the stores at the Holmbush Cen
tre could be curtailed owing to the huge increase in petrol prices, and with the possibility next year of my 1985-registration Toyota being consigned to the scrap heap for not being green enough.

I am of a generation who, during the last war and before, learned to deal with adversity and not having much and doing without.

While not completely agreeing with Private Fraser, of Dad's Army, that "we're doomed, we're doomed", my concern is not just for the future, but for our present day-to-day lives.

Michael Williams
