PETER Latham assures us (Herald, September 11) that much careful thought and consultation will be going into the plan to build a new town on Shoreham Harbour.
Such assurances are predictable, but completely miss the point.

It is not the detail of the proposal or the amount of consultation that makes the proposal so unpopular – it is the fact that it is proposed at all.

Why should a community, alr
eady overcrowded to an extent that is ruining our quality of life, welcome a plan that will cause a massive further increase in population, with all the resultant extra traffic and crippling strain on society?

I expect the development will happen, because gullible, misguided politicians have fallen wholesale for the spin merchants' mantra of "economic regeneration".

But please don't add insult to injury by telling us it's good for us and that we should support and welcome it.
