IN recent weeks, both Worthing and Adur councils have once again been trying to justify their failed attempt to create a joint workforce for both councils.
Your readers may be interested to learn a few salient facts.

Different council spokespeople are claiming TOTALLY different origins for the claimed saving – and all refuse to provide a shred of evidence.

This "fairy tale" saving has suddenly c
hanged from the £580,000 claimed earlier this year to £625,000 claimed last week, and again without a shred of evidence being provided.

The origins claimed for this saving have varied from the exit of Worthing's chief executive, three years or so ago, to the refuse and recycling service this year, although the facts point to a significant increase for this year in refuse and recycling costs.

One of the facts that did emerge from the July 23 joint staff committee report was that implementing a joint single pay spine for staff at Worthing and Adur would COST £1.3million extra for this and all future years, which more than wipes out the "saving", leaving a huge loss for council tax payers at both councils.

Martin King
former leader of Adur District Council
