A-BOARDS and other street furniture are troubling the tiny minds of our councillors and their officials.
I have for long understood that it is an offence to obstruct the highway.
In fact, over the years, people standing around in groups have been moved by the police and some, having refused to co-operate, have been charged.
Now the authorities
wish to legalise the offence by issuing a licence, the same people who instruct residents to create obstruction of the highway on a weekly basis with our wheelie bins.
Will we require a licence for these, too?
And, of course, the consequent insurance?
We need straight thinking on this.
Either there is a danger to the public or there is not.
Fairly obviously, there is, or the matter would not have been raised by those with concerns.
I recall that our MP was once involved with a campaign against A-boards with 4Sight.
Should the authorities issue licences, will they be conjoined in legal actions if claims for injury arise?
