STEYNING Cricket Club captain Andy Stillwell believes that two wins from his side's final three matches of the season will be enough to maintain their status in Division 2.
Steyning are still in the drop zone, and are 23 points adrift of third-bottom Worthing, but Stillwell said: "Two wins from three games would guarantee our survival. One win, and big points in our other games might be enough. But, if we don't win any of our last three, we won't stay up."

Steyning face promotion-chasing Haywards Heath, twice, and St James in their remaining games.

They are at Heath on Saturday, and Stillwell said: "We don't know much about them, but they need to win just as much as we do."

Last Saturday, Steyning managed to take just six points from their draw with Roffey.

Stillwell won the toss, stuck Roffey into bat because there was moisture in the wicket, but Roffey then scored 221-6. Josh Fleming batted through the innings for 110 not out, although he was dropped three runs short of his century.

Steyning's reply got off to a steady start with Stillwell and Owain Jones putting on 50 in 14 overs for the opening wicket.

But Steyning then suffered a major collapse and were 120-9 with 10 overs left. But, Gary Hunt, who hit an unbeaten 74 and Andy Isaacs, who finished nought not out, batted out for the draw on 183-9.

Left-arm spinner Luke Barnard took six Steyning wickets for 56 runs.

Stillwell said: "We bowled steadily but didn't bowl as well as we could have.

"We started well with the bat, but just needed more contributions. If we'd managed three 50-plus-run partnerships, it would have been a very close finish."
