SHOREHAM were denied their first league victory of the season by an injury-time Three Bridges equaliser in Division 1 on Saturday.
Carl Dunk rattled home a 25-yarder, when Mussels gave him too much time, and that made the final score 3-3.

Rob Boddy, with a 27th-minute penalty, after Owen Callaghan was brought down, gave Shoreham the lead, and Neil Kane twice went close to doubling it.

Gary Anderson levelled on the hour, but Kane restored Mussels' lead from Boddy's cross, five minutes later.

Nathan Davis again drew Bridges level within four minutes, but Boddy's brilliant individual strike, eight minutes from time, put Shoreham back ahead.

But Dunk had the last say, and Mussels joint-manager Darren Donnelly said: "We played really well, so it was a bit of a downer not to win.

"We were choked after the game, and it felt like a loss. But we played well against one of the favourites for the title."

SHOREHAM: Hunter; Mighall, Hurley, Denyer, Philpott; Boddy, Smith, Keehan, Taylor, Callaghan; Kane. Subs: Jordan (Philpott 65), Annis (Taylor 70), O'Brien, Burt, Proto.

In Division 2, Southwick suffered their first league defeat of the season in their 1-0 home reverse to Sidley, who were relegated from Division 1 last season.

The only goal came on 14 minutes through a free header at the back post, and Wickers boss Dominic Shepherd said: "We had a lot of possession, but their keeper must have caught 20 crosses, which we just didn't challenge for.

"We didn't have any great chances, and were too soft up front.
"We missed Nick Green, and, if he had played, I think we'd have got something."

SOUTHWICK: Taylor; Lipscombe, Elliott, Matthews, Donoghue; Dorrington, McNeil, Stideford, Steele; Bean, Wotherspoon. Subs: Nino (Steele 55), Chidgey (Wotherspoon 80), Rahaman (Matthews 85), Maltman, Harrington.

Paul Schofield grabbed a deserved 85th-minute winner for Steyning Town in their 2-1 victory in Division 2 at Wealden.

Town had missed several chances, before and after taking a 1-0 lead, and looked like they might pay for their wastefulness in front of goal when Wealden equalised with 15 minutes to go.

But, after Steve Duffett had headed just wide, Schofield got the winner when he nodded home the rebound after Duffett's header had hit the bar.

In the first half, Steyning missed several opportunities. Martin Rowe shot a one-on-one wide, and Simon Price, Schofield and Duffett were all denied by Wealden's keeper before James Davis tapped Town into a 1-0 lead from Duffett's pass, on 40 minutes.

In the second period, Rowe somehow shot against the bar from three yards, and Shaun Pickup hit a post before Wealden's equaliser.

Steyning boss Mark Dalgleish said: "I was extremely pleased with the way we played, and it was a very good result.

"Simon Price, who we moved to left midfield from upfront, was excellent, and Leo Trower and Steve Duffett also played very well."

STEYNING: Abbott; Davis, Trower, S.Duffett, Whittingham; Hill, Schofield, Garman, Rowe; Pickup, Price. Subs: Edmonds (Hill 75), Pargeter, Defraitas.

Shocking result. Where the heck did the ref get that much injury time from? The Mussels deserved all 3 points today, and can feel rightly aggrieved not to have got them.
