SOUTHWICK Football Club manager Dominic Shepherd was disappointed in his team after they failed to build on a bright start and continued their inconsistent form on Tuesday evening.
Shepherd said: "We were rubbish. Our passing was awful and we made too many stupid mistakes.

"We've got no consistency and, although John Elliott and Jon Donoghue (both injured), were a big loss for us, there can be no excuses for that performance."

With confidence high after their 3-1 win at second placed Westfield on Saturday, Wickers started well and took the lead after four minutes when Jamie Stideford converted Grant Bean's right-wing cross.

Storrington should have equalised instantly, when Gary Palmer missed from six yards after Liam Humphreys' corner fell to him.

This seemed to inspire Swans to take the upper hand, and they again went close, but John Rhodie's volley was well-saved by Tom Chidgey.

They did draw level on 25 minutes, though. Palmer made no mistake from 10 yards after another Humphreys corner picked him out.

Storrington then took the lead two minutes before half time. Stideford's intended pass for Dan Rahaman was intercepted by Chris Chilvers, who shot home from eight yards.

They went further ahead on 50 minutes. James Blaydon's free kick was half-cleared to David Cook, who spectacularly thumped home from 25 yards.

Storrington keeper Gary Elliott was then replaced in goal by defender Stuart McCall on 60 minutes, after Elliott suffered a back injury in a challenge with Stideford.

Shortly afterwards, James Wotherspoon was unlucky not to pull a goal back for Southwick, when his drive was well-saved by stand-in keeper McCall.

On 74 minutes, however, the deficit was reduced. Nick Green poked home from three yards after Ludwig Nino's ball evaded the Storrington defence.

That led to a spell of prolonged Southwick pressure, in which Ashley Dorrington headed just wide and Dave McNeill was denied by another McCall save.

Swans withstood the late siege and added a fourth in stoppage time. Liam Humphreys profited from more lax defending to head home Lee Saxby's cross.

That killed off Wickers, and Storrington comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to claim the three points.

SOUTHWICK: Chidgey; Paul Fleming (debut), Lipscombe, Rahaman, Stideford; Steele, Bean, D. MacNeill, Dorrington; Wotherspoon, Bean. Subs: Nino ((Steele 60), P.MacNeill, Mulvee, Dello.
