Hastings United manager Darren Hare is set to boost his attacking resources by signing another player with higher level experience.

Hare confirmed to Observer Sport yesterday (Thursday) that a deal had been done to bring in Alex Akrofi from Maidstone United.

The forms have been signed, Maidstone have cancelled Akrofi’s contract and his registration is expected to be completed this morning. He should therefore be in the squad for the key game at Dorking Wanderers tomorrow.

Hare said: “I’m delighted to get Alex. I think he’s something different to what we’ve got, and provides great competition for Frannie (Collin) and Jack (Harris).”

Akrofi was a prolific marksman for Brentwood Town, which led to a move to Maidstone, who he helped clinch the Ryman Football League Premier Division title in 2015.

The 21-year-old played a few times for the Stones in National League South last season and this term went on loan to Concord Rangers. That move hasn’t quite worked out, however, so the pacy forward is set to head south to The Pilot Field on a permanent basis.

“He’s very quick and we’ve got great options in the forward areas now,” continued Hare. “I’ve got to protect Jack a bit. His ankle’s still not 100 percent, and to ask him to play two 90-minute games in the space of a few days is asking a lot and you risk him getting injured again.”
