ORGANISERS have been forced to cancel an annual bath tub race just one year after saving the event.
Shoreham and Southwick Round Table pulled the plug on the Adur Bath Tub Race last year, but it was revived as the Beeding tub race and fun day by local residents keen to keep the tradition alive.

Health and safety regulations were cited as the reason for the original cancellation, and have again been blamed this time around.

Donna Bailey, one of the event's organisers, said: "It is with great regret that the current facilitators of the 2008 Bath Tub Fun Day have had to step down.

"Unfortunately we have encountered organisational difficulties in meeting all the stringent health and safety aspects required to stage this event safely for all concerned.

"The good news, however, is that we are aiming to plan this event bigger and better for next year. So would all tubbers please hold onto your tubs!

"We are now looking to form a Bath Tub Fun Day Committee as soon as possible in order to put our much-loved tradition back on the map for next year."

Anyone who would like to get involved with organising the event should call Mrs Bailey, on 07952 239957, or send an email to donnabailey1@sky.com

Any queries relating to entries already submitted for the event, which was due to take place in early August, should be directed to Andrew Knight, on 07957 887826.

This is ridiculous!

The Race has been running for c.30years - suddenly the beareucrats get involved and all is stopped! Petty & ridiculous....what next? I mean, the kids today say they are bored, of course, their parents are so snowed under in filling out forms, declarations, litigation avoidance documents, approvals that is easier to say "sorry son/daughter, it would be best not to do this event"....

What happened to this country? No-one can breathe without Brown's tentacles of Health & Safety / Nanny State strangling creativity and culture!

1984? Orwell only got the date wrong, should have been 2008....long live the Thought Police!

Let people live! We have been doing it for years!
